Sandy the Southport Bear here. I have seen Christina, Miss North West write a number of Blogs to keep you all up to date with things she has been doing, so I thought I would give it a go too!
As most of you know, I have joined Christina for a journey around the North West of England and I am having an amazing time so far – you only need to look at my photo collection to see how much fun I am having. As part of her role as a Miss England Finalist, Christina and all the other Miss England 2016 Finalists have been set the task of showing me around their area, before I welcome them back to my home Southport, for the 2016 Miss England Grand Final which is being held at the exceptionally stunning Floral Hall and the Ramada Plaza Hotel.
When I first met Christina she made me my very own Facebook page; ‘Sandys Journey Around the North West of England’ and also crowned me ‘Mr Bear North West’, awarding my very own sash just like the one Mr England wears. Since then we have attended a number of charity events, celebrated her 24th birthday & St George’s Day, attended community events, been guest’s at a Football Legends Dinner and visited a number iconic place’s around the North West, with many more to follow. We also took a trip on the trains back to my home of Southport for the one and only ‘Southport Food and Drink Festival’, which was also celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.
Being Southport’s mascot, I feel very privileged to be travelling around the North West and meeting so many lovely people. Everyone is so welcoming and is eager to listen to my stories about my journey so far and have pictures with me. I have met a number of famous people, visited local dance schools, placed the match ball on the Bolton Wanderers pitch and been out in front of the fans at half time. I have also been able to do some of my own charity fundraising, selling Sandy the Bear biscuits and cakes decorated with a Sandy on them which Christina helped me to make. But don’t worry, I have also found time to go to the gym and do my washing.
I cannot wait to see what else Christina has planned for us in the lead up to the Miss England Final and also after the final itself. We really have become best friends and I cannot thank Christina enough for all her inspiring and enjoyable journey’s so far around the North West.
I will be back on Christina’s laptop soon to tell you all more about our journey together, and about my home town of Southport.
Thank you for reading my first Sandy blog,
