When I was asked to take part in the Manchester Pro Hair Live Show my reaction was instantly YES!
I have taken part in several hair shows now, some in Bolton for independent hairdressers and even for Toni & Guy competitions in London where I got the chance to meet Toni himself! I absolutely love being involved in this type of show – being styled completely different from your everyday look is really exciting.
The man behind the Pro Hair Live Show creations is a lovely, very talented man named Andrew Minarik. It wouldn’t surprise me if you have heard his name before; he is a very popular and respected man in the hair world. Having worked in hairdressing for over 20 years, he has styled many contestants in Miss World and Miss England and takes part in major hair shows and competitions across the world. He is definitely the ‘go to’ man for hair!
Andrew was given the prime slot on the main stage at the Manchester hair show, and fitting to the Miss England theme he chose to name his section of the show ‘Prom Teen to Beauty Queen’ – how perfect! Miss England Natasha Hemmings, Miss Birmingham and my Miss England 2013 finalist roommate Rachael Barker, Miss Manchester Jodie Eyre, one of Andrews’s assistants and I all modelled for the show. Natasha wore a stunning silver dress and I and the girls wore red dresses, all kindly donated from the prom and gown specialist Kiss Me Kate. Unfortunately I had to wear my own red dress as I couldn’t fit the gorgeous gown which Kiss Me Kate had donated over my full head of rollers – my hair was very big! But all in all we felt stunning and pampered as a group, in our colour coordinated outfits.
Andrew prepped and styled our hair to echo the perfect hair for any formal occasion. With having thick hair, my style was huge! Using a curling iron and rollers, I was given the ultimate beauty queen hair – I absolutely loved it!
We also had our makeup done by the very talented Afshan Islam. She created a flawless base and smokey eyes with a popping red lip. I would love to be able to do my makeup like that! She was extremely professional and knew exactly how to bring out someone’s features. Afshan has to worked on the Miss World Finalists and our Miss England, Natasha. It would be wonderful if Afshan was at this year’s Miss England Finals to help prepare the contestants makeup – she knows exactly how to make you look stage and photo ready!
When on stage we all did a little walk and Andrew worked on our hair, finishing our overall looks and telling the viewers just how they can achieve that particular hair style. It was quite nerve racking sitting there so still with so many eyes watching and cameras filming, I hope we all made Andrew proud. Afshan also touched up our makeup on stage using some of her best MAC products, and one of Andrews lovely assistants fitted Balmain hair extensions to show just how easy and versatile hair extensions can be, and just how glamorous they can look.
I thoroughly enjoyed the day, meeting new people, working with Andrew and catching up with fellow Miss England finalists. I will always be grateful for being a part of events likes this. It was an absolute honour to be a part of and I can’t thank Andrew and Angie enough for involving me in such a fantastic event.
Next stop, Pro Hair Live London!
Lots of love
Your Miss Lancashire, Lucy xxx
